Patient Care Services
Kindred Hospitals use a multidisciplinary team approach to care that helps our patients return to the highest quality of life possible. Our areas of patient care services include:
Day Surgery
Our hospital offers day surgery as a convenient, efficient alternative for patients who require elective surgery. Our Day Surgery Unit is staffed by skilled and compassionate professionals who understand the unique needs of our patients. Their focus is on your comfort and timely recovery.
Outpatient Wound Care
We feature an outpatient wound clinic where you can be seen by the same wound care physicians and specially trained nurses you saw as a patient. Our clinic accepts ambulatory, wheelchair and stretcher patients.
Advanced Nutrition
When illness or surgery adversely affects a patient’s stomach or digestive system, we administer medication and nutrition through a PICC (peripherally inserted central catheter) or a PEG (percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy) until the patient recovers.
Dialysis
Our interdisciplinary team of dialysis specialists includes physicians, nurses, technicians and dietitians who strive to help you meet the challenges of dialysis with comfort and dignity, and continue to live a full, active life.
Direct Admission
For your convenience, our hospital accepts direct admissions from an Extended Care Facility or Skilled Nursing Center.
Endoscopy
An endoscope is a flexible, lighted tube that, when inserted into the digestive system, transmits images of the inside of the esophagus, stomach and duodenum, allowing the physician to carefully examine the lining of these organs. Our endoscopy team works to make you as comfortable as possible before, during and after the procedure.
Pulmonary Rehab
The aim of our pulmonary rehab team is to determine your capacity for respiratory recovery and then help you reach your fullest level of function. Our rehab regimen includes testing, education, breathing retraining and nutritional counseling.
Sleep Disorders
Left untreated, sleep disorders can lead to chronic fatigue and even serious accidents as a result of decreased alertness. Our interdisciplinary team of sleep specialists can analyze sleeping problems and offer restful solutions.
Wound Management
Our hospital features state-of-the-art care for chronic wounds – comprehensive care that may be delivered on an in- or outpatient basis by an interdisciplinary team that addresses nursing, dietary and rehabilitation treatment regimes.
Caregivers and Other Services
Our approach to treatment involves an interdisciplinary team of doctors, nurses, respiratory therapists, physical therapists, social workers, case managers, and dietitians. Working together, your healthcare team establishes a comprehensive plan of care aimed at restoring and maintaining you or your loved one’s quality of life. Patient care conferences are held on a regular basis to provide a forum for the team members to coordinate each patient’s care. Family members are encouraged to participate in these sessions.
Physicians
Your physician, a member of the medical staff, is responsible for the course of your clinical treatment. Your physician makes the necessary arrangements for laboratory X-rays, medications, special diets, and any other treatment or service. Kindred Hospital Dallas has approximately 200 physicians on staff from various specialties – cardiology, gastroenterology, general surgery, infectious disease, internal medicine, nephrology/dialysis, ophthalmology, orthopedics, pain management, pathology, plastic surgery, podiatry, psychiatry, pulmonology, radiology, vascular surgery, and urology. Our hospital medical director is board certified in internal medicine, pulmonary medicine and critical care. Our other physician directors are some of the finest doctors in Dallas, and oversee our programs for the Intensive Care, Surgery, Nephrology, Infection Control, Wounds, and Pathology units.
Nursing
The Department of Nursing consists of skilled professionals working collaboratively with your physician and healthcare team members to maximize your progress. The department is overseen by a Chief Nursing Officer and an Assistant Director. Supervisors and ICU nurses are all certified in advanced cardiac life support. The goal for nursing is to provide quality care in a professional and compassionate manner. Care plans are created through the teamwork of nurses, physicians, therapists and specialists in other disciplines; services are provided around the clock to meet each individual’s unique needs.
Respiratory Therapists
Our team of respiratory therapists evaluates, treats and manages patients with cardiopulmonary problems, along with offering preventive care. Our professional and competent staff consists of registered and certified respiratory therapists who are on site 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Under the direction of a physician, respiratory therapy can guide you and your family through the processes of ventilator weaning, administering inhalant medications, nebulizer treatments and the like. Diagnostic studies available include such tests as oxygen saturation monitoring, EKGs, sleep studies and bronchoscopies.
Radiology
The Radiology Department plays an important role in diagnosing many illnesses. Advanced equipment enables the staff to provide a variety of X-rays and diagnostic services including X-rays, ultrasounds, Fluoroscope studies, and Doppler studies.
Surgical Services
Surgical services are available on an inpatient and outpatient basis. All of our surgery nurses are trained in advanced cardiac life support. Meals, if appropriate, are provided as well as complimentary parking. If an outpatient requires an overnight stay, comfortable sleep accommodations are available with continued nursing care. The area is equipped to supply a wide range of services including the following specialties:

Food Services and Nutrition Support
The goal of our dietitian is to strive to meet your nutritional needs and prepare diets as ordered by your physician. The dietitian also performs periodic nutritional assessments and monitors your nutrition plan. Please make the dietitian aware of your food preferences and any food allergies you may have.
Physical Therapy
Our physical therapists are an integral part of your rehabilitation process. Under the direction of your physician, they evaluate, treat and provide rehabilitation for muscular, skeletal, neurological and circulatory diseases.
